More Water!

As I have chatted with several people today regarding their fasting and how things were progressing I thought that I might give a practical suggestion.

When you begin your fast, and particularly a fruit and vegetable fast, your body begins to go through a “spring cleaning” as Jentezen Franklin puts it. Fasting is something we do that has a spiritual purpose but there are other side effects that your physical body experiences as well. If you have younger children these “side effects” might be more noticeable to the rest of the family as well. You might also experience a headache for a period of time. These are all things that happen when your body begins to detox and the impurities begin to leave your system, they have nothing to do with the devil or any other spiritual power that is trying to make your fasting more difficult. It is just the way God designed your body to work.

On a practical note: DRINK LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER. The more water you can drink the better…as it will help to flush the impurities out of your system…quite literally. In the books that I have read many authors suggest that you drink distilled water.

I will leave you with a verse from the book of Job, “I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.” (Job 23:12)

May God see our hearts as we pray and fast that His spirit would move in our country once again.

Eric and I are amazed at our children. They really wanted to do this fast with us. And after 3 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 2 dinners, we've had no complaining! And basically our diet consists of fruit, veggies, nuts, %100 natural juices, water, and lot's of beans (but not canned with sugar - it's insane how much sugar we eat unknowingly!). It's as if God has called them for "such a time as this" - to fast as a family for our country, for other Christians, and for us. This morning Emilie asked if she could have yogurt on the fast and we said no and she said, "okay" and promptly went and grabbed the grapes, blueberries, and peanuts! (although we do encourage them have 1 glass of milk at dinner for they are growing kids). All of this to say, I'm amazed! To be a part of this fast as a family is very unifying. And they are learning to eat new things and loving it. Below is a meal we ate last night and they all cleaned their bowls out (even Emilie, our picky eater)! Thought I would share.
In Christ,
Carrie

Scroll down to the free recipes and click on Black Bean Corn Chowder (we took out the poblano peppers, put in only 1/2 T of cumin, and used 2 cans of corn - not frozen). Yum! It would be much better with sour cream and cheese, but that's 19 days away!
